Artist's Biography
Linda Butler is a fine-art photographer known for
her work with the Shaker community, in rural Japan,
and in Italy. Her photographs capture the essence
of the people, the landscape, and the intricacies
of both history and everyday life. Her latest project
involved capturing the Yangtze River and its people
before, during, and after the completion of the
Three Gorges Dam. Her photographs are infused with
drama, intimacy, and a certain lyrical quality.
Butler’s work has been exhibited in more than 45
one-person shows and many major museums, including
Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and the Corcoran Gallery
of Art, and the Whitney Museum of Art.
