ENGLISH,
1815 - 1879
At the age of 48, Julia Margaret Cameron first picked
up a camera and used the tool to document Victorian England
through portrait work and recreational images. Her portraits
are easily recognizable due to their large head close-up
nature and include photographs taken of Alfred Lord Tennyson,
Herschel, Carlyle, Ellen Terry and Charles Darwin. She
made over 3,000 large format wet collodian negatives but
after moving back India (Ceylon) in 1875 produced very
few photographs.
