LINNAEUS TRIPE (BRITISH, 1822 - 1902)
As a British military officer and photographer Linneaus Tripe worked in Burma in 1855, and from 1869 - 1872, and for the Madras Presidency in Southern India from 1856 - 1860. Tripe  documented buildings, landscapes and cultural artifacts in an unprecedented series of photographs. He published his Indian work in six large format albums. His expeditions allowed him to document archaeological sites, religious and secular buildings, most of which are now destroyed. He also worked in the stereo format and retired as an Honorary Major General in 1875.
