Artist's
Biography
Born in the Koyasan
region of Japan, Nagasaka has spent the past
two decades photographing the familiar haunts
of a boyhood spent near the ancient temple complex
which shares the region’s name. The temple complex
is over 1,200 years old and remains one of the
most sacred places in Japan. Through his work,
Nagasaka has given us a rare and intimate view
of a place steeped in the ancient traditions
of esoteric Buddhism. Nagasaka’s photographs
have been shown in one-man exhibitions throughout
the world and have been published in eight monographs.
His work is in the permanent collections of
Imperial Household Agency and the Tokyo Photographic
Cultural Center, as well as in the private collections
of former Japanese prime ministers Fukada and
Nakasone, among others. |
